Join Robert August in Costa Rica - Surfing for a cause
June 14th, 2010, 2:25 pm - posted by Laylan Connelly, staff writer
If you’re itching for a surf trip and can ditch out on work, check out this fundraiser trip Robert August – surf legend and star of Endless Summer – puts on in Costa Rica.

The annual Robert August Surf & Turf trip happens from July 29 to August 1, and brings people from around the world to spend days playing golf and surfing during friendly competition.

Here’s what goes down during the four days: A welcome party, surf contest at Playa Avellana, a golf tournament at Hacienda Pinilla, two dinners , a catamaran tour and an award ceremony.

Robert August first introduced this area to the world in Endless Summer 2, when he introduced Robert “Wingnut” Weaver and Pat O’Connell to the pristine surf break. The idea for a fundraiser here started when August began holding small competitions for the young locals so they could get things like leashes, sunglasses and wax.

One hundred percent of the profits go to the local non-profit organization CEPIA, which helps children in the area of Santa Cruz to improve schools, organize sports and educational activities, and to prevent teenagers participating in gangs and violence.

Through the years, the Surf and Turf trip has done amazing work, these days raising about $20,000 each year.
